Nas talks about his new album, the N-word, and his music video!
Are Nas' points valid? Is hip hop too commercial? Is the media being unfair on hip hop? How come these media outlet do not react to others genres of music like they do to hip hop?
I suggest that we all reevaluate what is the true meaning of hip hop.
Many think it all about a way to make money and women. Other believe it is a outlet for all to express their life and experiences. Some believe it is all about life in the hood or on the streets.
I always thought that hip hop was poetry set to music. Hip hop is a story that can makes everyone Think. Hip hop is suppose to be a diary for all to read, learn and understand. Hip hop is a story, sometimes a tragedy, sometimes a horror, other times a comedy.
I don't know what happen. Maybe the money got in the way. Maybe the fame was so bright, it blinded everyone from the true meaning. Who knows! What I do know is the popular music on the radio is not hip hop. Just a music industry imitation!
Maybe Hip hop is not dead. Maybe it is in a coma and we all are waiting for it to wake up!
What is hip hop to you?
